Connection to Nature and Craftsmanship

Every birdhouse I build at Moosefrog Birdhouses starts with a day in the woods. For as long as I can remember, wandering the forests - especially those wild paths and glacial riverbeds up in Maine - has always been my way to recharge, ground myself, and find beauty in places most folks might overlook. My story began with 28 years as a nurse, caring for others, often sharing simple comforts like the gentle sounds of birds just beyond the window. Those moments inspired me to pick up carpentry tools after retirement, turning my lifelong forest explorations into a new kind of care - crafting safe, functional, and beautiful birdhouses that actually help local birds thrive.

Living with autism brings a kind of focus and sensitivity to details that shapes my craft. It means I see the character in every root, bur, and weathered branch - treasures I collect myself on long hikes with my dogs. Back in my small garage workshop in Clinton, CT, I let each found piece guide the design, never following a plan or template. Every house is one-of-a-kind, built from responsibly gathered cedar then fitted to exact Audubon sizes, so real birds will call them home. Moosefrog Birdhouses is both my art and my story: wood, wilderness, and unwavering care, all shaped into gifts meant to last generations. I invite you to slow down, explore with me, and find wonder in the wild places - whether you are near or far.

Tami Cogar

Founder & Artisan

Walking through old forests and along shifting riverbeds has always been my kind of peace. My name is Tami, and for decades, I worked as a nurse by day but always found myself reaching for a piece of wood, daydreaming of the next time I'd lose myself among the maples and pines. After years caring for others, I finally answered my heart's pull to work with my hands, turning Maine's hidden forest treasures - roots, burs, weathered cedar - into something genuinely useful and filled with story. Living with autism has given me a natural focus for detail and ritual, which means every birdhouse I build gets my full care, respect, and joy. I do not use templates or shortcuts - just patient craftsmanship and what the wild offers up. These are true one-of-a-kind pieces, always made to be safe for birds, sturdy through the seasons, and honest to the land where they began. Through Moosefrog Birdhouses, I hope to share the wonder and deep comfort of the wilderness with others, one handmade gift at a time.
